School Board
Meeting
Oldham-Ramona
School Dist 39-5
August 22,
2011
The Oldham-Ramona School Board
of Education met in special session at 7:00 p.m. at the school. Present were Lisa Beyer, Larry Malcomb, Mike Matson, Chandra Waikel,
and Jay Hojer.
Others present were Andrew Swift, Toni Stout, Darwin Stewart, Supt Brian
Sieh, and Business Manager GayLynn Hagemann. Chairman Beyer, who established a quorum was
present, called the meeting to order.
Unless noted all motions were unanimous.
At the August 8, 2011 regular board
meeting a motion was made to obtain bids for a new boiler or forced air
system. The current boiler did not meet
the requirements during the inspection and will need to be repaired or replaced
before winter. Andrew Swift of SwiftAir discussed with the board options regarding the
current boiler system.
The building project floor plan was drawn out
on the school lawn where the new construction will occur. The board and visitors examined and commented
on the plans. The stage/bleacher area
was also drawn out.
Action #2967: Motion by Malcomb,
seconded by Matson to provide the driver for the Special Ed program to
Children’s Care Hospital and School. Students
being carpooled would be from O-R, Colman-Egan, and possibly Rutland. Superintendent Sieh will advertise the
position as a Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 position.
The board received a request from a
business to place an advertisement in the athletic programs for the year. The board’s suggestion was to see if they
would consider printing napkins (or styrofoam
cups to be used during the football season) that would be used in the
concession stand. The school board has
decided to offer printing an advertisement in the athletic programs as a
service to all area businesses at a cost.
Please contact Supt Sieh if interested by Friday, September 9.
Action #2968: Motion by Waikel,
seconded by Malcomb to advertise for an assistant
cook/Special Ed aide position. Position
will be 10:00-1:30 as assistant cook and 1:30-3:30 as Special Ed aide.
Action #2969: Motion by Waikel,
seconded by Hojer to approve two open enrollment
applications and two SD High School Activities Association applications. (2012-#11 & #12)
The board discussed the shortage of student
workers in the concession stand. Last
year this became an issue. For each
event there should be a teacher and at least two or three student helpers. The board discussed having a group or club
take over the concession stand for this reason.
The
next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for Monday, September 12, 2011
at 7:00 p.m.
Action #2970: Motion by Waikel,
seconded by Matson to adjourn at 9:08 p.m.
